At the CAA we are delighted to offer a range of apprenticeships programmes from early career apprenticeships to colleagues who are looking to continue their professional development.
The apprenticeships currently available at the Civil Aviation Authority include: –
Level 3 – Customer Service Specialist Apprenticeship
A customer service specialist is the ‘professional’ for direct customer support within all sectors and organisation types. They are advocates of high quality customer service, who act as a referral point for dealing with more complex or technical requests, complaints and queries.
Duration: 15 months (on average) plus End-point Assessment (EPA).

Level 3 – Human Resource Support Apprenticeship
The HR Support Level 3 programme is for People Professionals that deliver front line support to managers and employees. Their work is likely to include handling day to day queries and providing HR advice and working on a range of HR processes whilst ensuring they always comply with company policy and current law.
Duration: 13 months (on average) plus End-point Assessment (EPA).

Level 3 – Learning and Development Practitioner Apprenticeship
The Learning and Development Practitioner Level 3 programme is for people working as learning and development (L&D) practitioners in organisations across the private, public and third sectors. Delegates support the L&D function to contribute to, and influence, improved performance in the workplace at an individual, team and organisation level

Level 3 – Business Administrator Apprenticeship
The Business Administrator Level 3 apprenticeship provides the opportunity for team members to grow and develop their skills towards management capabilities

Level 3 – Junior Developer Apprenticeship
The Junior Developer Level 3 Apprenticeship provides a wide range of skills including Python, C#, java, SQL, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Git, Microservices and Cloud. Junior Software Developers assist in the development team with all aspects of software design and coding, using a wide range of skills.
Duration: 13 months (+3 months for End-point Assessment)

Level 3 – Microsoft data Essentials Apprenticeship
This Data is at the heart of all our business processes. QA’s Microsoft Digital Business Apprenticeships are supporting to transform that capability of existing workforce, and recruit superstar talent into businesses. As part of their market defining Microsoft Digital Business Funded Learning Portfolio, they have developed the Microsoft Data Essentials Level 3 Apprenticeship, adding Microsoft Excel Certification and BI expertise.

Level 3 – Team Leader Apprenticeship
This programme is right for you if you are in a Team Leader role, or aspiring/about to enter this role imminently.
The course is designed for those who manage people within their day-to-day activity and have responsibility for people processes and performance development conversations. You may directly line manage people at the start of this programme, or you may indirectly manage team members by having responsibility for a project or project element which others are required to work on.

Level 4 – Software Developer Apprenticeship
This Apprenticeship is ideal for you if you are working in an Application, Software or web developer role.
During this programme, you will learn about
- All stages of the software development lifecycle and Project lifecycle.
- Communication methods, how teams work effectively to produce software, organisational policies and procedures
- Differences between software development methodologies such as agile and waterfall
- Software design approaches and patterns to identify reusable solutions to commonly occurring problems
- Algorithms, logic and data structures relevant to software development
- Principles and uses of relational and non-relational databases, software designs and functional or technical specifications
- Software testing and frameworks
Entry Criteria:
- 5 GCSE’s A-C / 9-4 or equivalent (must include Maths and English)
- 2 years of higher education (A Levels, Technical or equivalent)
- It is essential that you can demonstrate the learning in your day-to-day role to achieve the qualification / pass the assessment at the end.
Duration: 24- 27 months
Level 4 – Data Analyst Apprenticeship
This is an ideal apprenticeship if you are working in a Data, Junior, Marketing or Departmental Analyst Role.
During this programme, you will learn about
- Current relevant legislation and its application to the safe use of data, organisational data and information security standards policies and procedures
- Data lifecycle and steps involved in carrying out routine data analysis tasks, principles of data including open and public data, differences between structured and unstructured data
- Data structures, Database system design, implementation and maintenance, principles of user experience
- Approaches to combining data from different sources, organisational tools and methods for data analysis
- Organisational data architecture
- Principles of statistics for analysing datasets, principles of descriptive, predictive and prescriptive analytics.

- 5 GCSE’s A-C / 9-4 or equivalent (must include Maths and English)
- 2 years of higher education (A Levels, Technical or equivalent)
- It is essential that you can demonstrate the learning in your day-to-day role to achieve the qualification / pass the assessment at the end.
Duration: 24-27 months
Level 4 – Intelligence Analyst Apprenticeship
This is an ideal apprenticeship if you are working in an Intelligence Analyst, Officer or Researcher role, or Security Analyst, Security Manager role.
During this programme, you will learn about
- Legal and organisationally appropriate intelligence collection and storage methods, together with their limitations.
- The implications for loss of sensitive material, remaining alert to the methods required to protect against physical and cyber security risks and what procedures to follow
- Processes around collation and evaluation of relevant sources of information for use within intelligence products, relevant intelligence sources that are commonly used
- Intelligence cycle, and all processes involved
- The main factors influencing organisational/client environments, the benefit of generating or using intelligence combined from several sources as opposed to a single source
- How to use analytical development techniques to identify and produce key findings and judgments in assessments, carry out data analysis from a numerical or factual perspective and identify intelligence gaps and identify a range of relevant and credible information sources and recognise the need to collect new data, when necessary from sources.

- 2 years of higher education (A Levels, Technical or equivalent)

Duration: 18-24 months
Level 4 – Regulatory Compliance Officer Apprenticeship
This is an ideal apprenticeship if you are looking for a career in auditing, regulation, or compliance.
During this programme, you will learn about
- Supporting multi-channel product marketing campaigns including social media, email marketing and copywriting.
- Website administration to include creating and update marketing content and imaging
- Opportunity and lead generation
- Content management and marketing administration

- 5 GCSE’s A-C / 9-4 or equivalent (must include Maths and English)
- 2 years of higher education (A Levels, Technical or equivalent)
- It is essential that you can demonstrate the learning in your day-to-day role to achieve the qualification / pass the assessment at the end.
Duration: 15-18 months
Level 5 – Operations Manager Apprenticeship
This programme is right for you if you are stepping up from line managing a person, to managing a team. The course is designed for those who manage people or projects and are ultimately accountable to a more Senior Manager or Business Owner.
During this programme, you will learn about
- Delivering Operational Excellence: Achieving excellent results through others and planning capability
- Leading through Innovation and Change: Change communications and encouraging fresh ideas to improve results
- Managing and Developing Business Relationships; Networking for success, stakeholder management and negotiation
- Managing Finance and Budgets: Operational budget controls, disseminated budget management and departmental reporting
Entry Criteria:
- You must be in a suitable role to take part in this programme or be stepping into a relevant role imminently.
- Maths and English Grade 9-4 or equivalent
Duration: 24 months
Level 6 – Data Scientist Apprenticeship
This is an ideal apprenticeship if you are working in a Data Scientist, Informatics or Data Engineer role.
During this programme, you will learn about
- The context of Data Science and the Data Science community in relation to computer science, statistics and software engineering.
- How data and analysis may exhibit biases and prejudice. How ethics and compliance affect Data Science work, and the impact of international regulations (including the General Data Protection Regulation.
- How data can be used systematically, through an awareness of key platforms for data and analysis in an organisation.
- How to design, implement and optimise analytical algorithms, Statistical and mathematical models and methods, Development standards, including programming practice, testing, source control.
- The data landscape: how to critically analyse, interpret and evaluate complex information from diverse datasets
Entry Criteria:
- 5 GCSE’s A-C / 9-4 or equivalent (must include Maths and English)
- 2 years of higher education (A Levels, Technical or equivalent)
- 1 STEM subject
- It is essential that you can demonstrate the learning in your day-to-day role to achieve the qualification / pass the assessment at the end.
Duration: 36-39 months
Level 7 – MSc Aviation Safety Management, Risk and Regulation
In partnership with Cranfield University, this is an ideal postgraduate course available as an apprenticeship for professionals working in aerospace and commercial air transport industries.
It provides a globally unique offering that relates to the regulatory background of all aspects of aviation safety, including design, production, operations, and maintenance.
During this programme, you will learn about
- Provide a globally unique offering to meet the needs of safety professionals in the industry and the regulator, offering the opportunity to engage with real safety problems of today and future challenges.
- Promote excellence in risk and safety management via Masters level course that forms part of a high technology mastership programme in safety, risk and regulation.
- Promote safety management and performance-based regulatory practice within UK and globally
Entry Criteria:
– Prior UG degree @ 2:2 or above (or equivalent)
– 3rd degree + 3 years’ experience
– No degree but relevant lower qualification or licence + 7 years’ experience
Duration: 3 Years (part-time)
