The CAA looks after everything to do with things that fly, like aeroplanes, drones, helicopters, hot air balloons and since July 2021 space rockets and satellites too!

We work to make sure that rocket launches from spaceports in the UK are safe for the public and that the satellites that are sent into space are used for their intended purpose.

We do this by issuing licences to companies that want to launch rockets, operate spaceports or satellites. Our team of engineers, regulatory and policy specialists carefully review all the licence applications from space companies and once we’re satisfied that they meet all the requirements will issue a licence. We also carry out regular checks on companies after they have received their licence to make sure they are doing everything needed to keep people safe.
