King’s Trust Get Ready Programme Partnership with CAA STEM
This year the CAA STEM Programme partnered with the King’s Trust (formally the Prince’s Trust) to support the delivery of their Get Ready Programme in four regions, Birmingham, Bristol, Manchester, and Southampton.
Colleagues from the CAA delivered a 5-day Aviation Themed programme covering the following area:
- An introduction to the Aviation Industry,
- An airport visit,
- An introduction to Drone Technology,
- Space Exploration,
- Sustainability, environmental impacts of aviation,
- Emerging Technologies in aviation
- A career development workshop
- The week was completed with a networking element and a celebration presentation.
Young Person Feedback – Best Bits of the Programme:
The programme offered a well-rounded introduction to civil aviation, with many participants noting specific highlights:
Sustainability and Soft Skills, Airport Visit, Guest Speakers and Variety, Drone Session, Overall Enjoyment, Quality of the facilitators/speakers each day, The space day, Dragons Den pitch activity, networking opportunities. It was great for our group to pick the brains of the CAA experts.
Youth Development Lead Feedback – Tim Jaques:
I really enjoyed working on the Get Ready with Aviation programme with CAA. It was informative, inspiring and had the right balance between discussions and team-based activities. Highlights of the week were seeing how well the young people worked together on the tasks that were set for them and the enthusiasm they all displayed to meet the CAA guests, engage in discussions and enjoy the sessions.
It was a great week, and we were really proud of the young people’s achievements and grateful for CAA’s time and for leading on such a great programme.
Youth Development Lead Feedback – Laura McGuinness:
Thank you again to you and your colleagues for a brilliant week. The young people really got so much out of all of the activities this week and the sessions today were so beneficial. The young people stayed well after you had left asking further questions about next steps which was great to see!
Outreach activity like this can change lives, we are so proud of what we have been able to deliver and support this wonderful programme. A special thank you goes out to the amazing CAA colleagues who contributed to the success of this partnership:

As a new partnership, a lot of time and planning went into building this programme with huge efforts from colleagues in coordinating with different companies, working on drones, creating a dragons den activity, developing a space workshop, airport visits, AI presentation and successfully delivering the session, we are incredibly grateful for these colleagues who stepped up to support.
As we reflect on this programme and the partnership with the King’s Trust, we are so proud of how we have been able to support The King’s Trust mission; that every young person deserves the chance to succeed, continuing to be there for young people, providing a lifeline and hope for the future at a time when it has never been more needed.
