Brief Description
The Air Operations (Control) is a diverse, exciting and complex employment area which directs and supports operations both in the UK and around the world. The three key employment areas are Terminal Air Traffic Control (providing an ATC service at an airfield), Area Control (working alongside civilian air traffic controllers at the UK’s Air Traffic Control Centre at Swanwick) and finally as a Weapons Controller (direct fast jet aircraft to intercept potentially hostile aircraft that threaten the integrity of UK Airspace).

Entry Routes
Be aged 17.5 – 38 years old. Meet the health and fitness criteria. Have GCSE at Grade C/4-5 or SCE Standard Grades at Grade 2/Scottish National 5 in English Language, Maths and 3 other subjects. Have at least 2 A2 Levels/3 Highers at Grade C or above which must total a minimum of 64 UCAS points. Or hold a UK degree at Grade 2:2 or acceptable alternative. Must be a UK citizen or resided in the UK for at least the last 5 years.

Brief Description
Air Operations (Systems) is a diverse, exciting and complex role which directs and supports operations both in the UK and around the world. The three key areas of employment are within the Flight Operations, Aerospace Surveillance and Space Operations/Control domains. Officers within this specialisation will use sophisticated radar and communications technology to provide organisations with the information they need to make time-critical decisions that underpin the operational support functions of the RAF.

Create and edit key documents used by UK Armed Forces, foreign air forces and some civilian airlines.
Brief Description
Your role could be processing digital mapping for use in frontline aircraft cockpit displays and mission planning systems, or updating charts that guide our aircrew safely through take-off, transit and landing. Additionally, you could be updating charts that detail obstructions, such as buildings and powerlines, that enable fast jets and helicopters to navigate safely at low level, or creating charts depicting airways over countries around the world used by transport aircraft to carry troops to the front line.

Air & Space Operations Specialists (ASOS) work across 3 Employment Pillars; Air Operations Support, Air Operations Systems and Space Operations providing specialist skills across a variety of Employment Areas. All ASOS roles are directly involved in aviation or space in support of aircrew, UK homeland defence or airfield operations utilising modern radar, communications and IT systems.There are opportunities for a varied career which may include working in Air Traffic Control, the Space Operations Centre, Airspace Management, Tactical Data Links and Squadron Operations to name but a few.

Crash Rescue
Brief Description
RAF Firefighters provide a deployable Aerodrome & Rescue Firefighting capability to Defence in the UK and overseas. When in the UK your role will be to maintain immediate readiness to respond to fight fires and effect rescue from military aircraft. You will also provide a first response to emergencies on the Defence estate and assist in providing fire safety awareness to Station personnel.
